Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has teamed up with other government agencies in launching “Byaheng Ligtas sa Droga” as part of its intensified anti-illegal drugs campaign at major ports in the MIMAROPA (Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) region.
Jacquelyn L. de Guzman, regional director of PDEA-MIMAROPA, said PDEA is collaborating with the Philippine Coast Guard, Police Maritime Group, Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) and Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) in launching an information campaign against the drug menace among sea travelers and other port users.
De Guzman thanked PPA Port Manager Annie Manese and other shipping companies such as Starlite Ferries, 2Go Travel, Oceanjet, Fastcat, Montenegro Shipping, Super Shuttle Roro, Besta Shipping and Calsedeco Arrastre for supporting the project.
In a demonstration during the launching at PPA premises last June 22, a K-9 dog was used to inspect cargo and baggage.
In Calapan City, a barangay councilor who surrendered himself in the Philippine National Police’s Oplan Tokhang was arrested during a bust by the Police Regional Drugs Enforcement Unit (RDEU), City DEU and PDEA last Thursday.
Superintendent Jonathan P. Paguio, Calapan police chief, identified the councilor as Marlon E. Fabros, 52.
Paguio said seven plastic sachets containing suspected shabu and a tricycle were confiscated from Fabros.
