Oriental Mindoro Rep. Reynaldo Umali is getting advice from international figures in his efforts to improve the criminal justice system in the country.
Umali recently held a consultative meeting with Judge Frank Whitney of the Judge Frank Whitney, Western District of North Carolina, Atty. Felix Camerino Jr. of the US Department of Justice Criminal Division, and Department of Justice Assistant Secretary George Ortha.
This is to improve his bill on the criminal investigation system, which he said was part of the House Justice Committee’s efforts to make the disposition of justice faster and more efficient.
The politiko shared photos of the important meeting on his Facebook page.
Unlike other officials, he seems to have no problem working with the US.
“Consultative meeting with Judge Frank Whitney, United States District Court, Western District of North Carolina, Atty. Felix Camerino,Jr. of US Department of Justice Criminal Division and DOJ ASec George Ortha regarding our proposed bill on Criminal Investigation Sytem. This is part of the overall program of the House Committee on Justice to reengineer/bring reform to the five pillars of the Philippine Criminal Justice System,” he posted.
