The Department of Public Works and Highways has completed two big-ticket projects along Mindoro West Coast Road in Occidental Mindoro last year worth more than a billion pesos.
The recently finished projects, according o Project Director Virgilio C. Castillo of DPWH- Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) Roads Management Cluster I, cost P1.1- billion.
The infrastructure projects involved the concreting and widening of Calintaan to Sablayan Road section and the Sta. Cruz Road section with 2 bridge components.
The Department said that bridges that were completed are the 518.4-lineal meter Sablayan Bridge and the 91.6-lineal meter Puntabanga Bridge.
“DPWH, through Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) allocated P916.6 million for the rehabilitation along the 43-kilometer Calintaan to Sablayan Road Section and P204.5 million for the 6-kilometer Sta. Cruz Road section,” the department said in a statement.
The projects finished along Mindoro West Coast Road are just among the “many other infrastructure projects that were funded under the JICA loan.”
In 2016, DPWH said it completed the improvement of the 2-kilometer Mamburo section and the paving and widening of the 23-kilometer Rizal to Calintaan section of Mindoro West Coast Road amounting to P13.6 million and P288.3 million, respectively, after completing the concreting and widening of the 6-kilometer Sablayan to Sta. Cruz section worth P461.8 million in 2015.
“The realization of these road improvements will support tourism and socio-economic development of the island,” Director Castillo was quoted as saying in a statement.
