DSWD checks on typhoon-hit Marinduque

Social welfare secretary Judy Taguiwalo has flown to Marinduque on Friday, December 30, to check on the situation of the island province after it was badly hit by typhoon Nina.


Taguiwalo flew by helicopter along with the assistant secretary Anton Hernandez and other key disaster response personnel of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

The DSWD team will monitor the relief distribution and check on the current situation and needs of the people of Marinduque, the hardest hit province in Mimaropa or Region IV-B.

Typhoon Nina made its fifth landfall in Santa Cruz, Marinduque at around 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, Christmas Day.

An eight-year-old boy was the lone casualty in the province.


DSWD data reveal a total of 28,398 families or 144,623 individuals across Marinduque’s 218 barangays were affected by the typhoon, mostly from the provincial capital of Boac.
