Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro – The Department of Health (DOH) in Mimaropa (Mindoro Oriental and Occidental, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) region announced Friday that 90 drug surrenderers have completed the community-based drug rehabilitation program, where non-traditional therapeutic methods and other socially significant knowledge were used and imparted in Occidental Mindoro.
DOH-Mimaropa regional director Dr. Eduardo C. Janairo said the holistic approach was implemented for the rehabilitation of drug surrenderers, using non-traditional but globally- tested research and evidence-based interventions which also includes family planning services for surrenderers and their family.
FAMILY PLANNING, TOO
“This is also one way to address unmet needs of non-facility-based households in rehabilitation centers by providing them access to family planning and reproductive health methods,” Dr. Janairo said.
Under the Community-based Drug Rehabilitation, Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Program, surrenderers will be provided with appropriate services, training, herbal and natural remedies, and other resources to help them in their transition from a culture of illegal drug dependence to a lifestyle of freedom and productivity.
Forty-six of those who completed the rehabilitation program are from the town of Magsaysay and 44 from the town of Rizal.
All of them underwent a series of health assessments and consultations using electric acupuncture, hypotential therapy and disease prevention analyzer.
According to Janairo, herbal and natural remedies such as epsom salt, activated charcoal, Vitamin B3 – niacin (no flush), Andrographis Paniculata, Vitamin C, alkaline supplement, malunggay supplement, turmeric supplement and rice coffee with turmeric powder were given to all participants to keep their body fit and also for detoxification.
Live Blood Analysis (LBA) was used to observe the blood of participants in real time, a process which can show when an individual is critical for immediate detoxification by detecting the electrical frequency in the blood cells.
Music therapy was also introduced, exposing participants to various sounds that are designed to eliminate stress and relax their minds.
